Emu…

South Kensington, London. April 2010

A little lump caught in my throat when I shot this one of Emu. It’s  a sappy momma thing I know. Emu has been a fixture in Sprog’s life for over 7 years now… around the time Sprog’s total obsession with dinosaurs expanded and evolved – just like the dinosaurs – into all things modern-reptilian and feathered. No one even remembers how Emu became a part of our family. He was just there one day… usually tucked under Sprog’s arm…  through illness, on family holidays, every birthday, and – yes – on all school trips away.  Hence the necessary ownership-tag carefully sewn onto the sole of his foot 🙂 He was there in the backseat of the car at the KFC drive-thru when a wee Sprog protested him seeing ‘what people did to chickens’. He was there this past April in London when an achingly grown-up Sprog donned his first adult blazer for school interviews. He’s there every night at bedtime on Sprog’s bed – tangled up in headphone wires, tucked between Sprog’s pillow and his iPod. There’s no greater story of understated love and loyalty 🙂  He’s Emu xox

Cat has her Minnie Mouse which she chose when she was about 2 yrs old when we’d moved back from 6 months in Germany – her 3rd move between continents in her 2 years. Minnie has followed her on countless holidays, maybe even earlier class trips, and has now followed her off to University 🙂
